Paterno lawsuit may uncover more than honey

... the 1998 case could lead to perjury allegations

The lawsuit that the Paterno family has filed against Penn State could open some key files for their defense team, but it could also open other files for the other side. In fact, that investigation may prove that Joe Paterno knew about the details  of the 1998 investigation of Sandusky that was conducted by the PSU police department. If so, Paterno would then be guilty of perjury for his testimony to the Sandusky grand jury.  That could filed under what is usually called "unintended consequences."

This 1998 case was the one that Ray Gricar refused to prosecute -- to the anger of the PSU police -- for some reason, one that we may never know about because of his disappearance.

So, the Paternos may prove that the Freeh Report was done too quickly and accepted too readily by the board of trustees, but that whole process would not have occurred if not for the "sweeping it under the rug" policy followed by Paterno and other PSU administrators.

Could be very interesting because two victims have refused to accept the Penn State settlement and are now going to court for a civil suit. This would also lead to their discovery of these files and e-mails that are currently being investigated by Attorney General Kathleen Kane. If the 1998 case was indeed something that Paterno knew about, then his estate -- and the other three administrators -- may be liable for damages from those two defendants, who were children at the time of the damages by Sandusky.

Another little key bit of reporting that has been ignored is that Joe Paterno cancelled his trip to the shore with the family in 1998 because of the investigation. An Esquire Magazine article indicates that the Paterno family was minus its patriarch during that time because of the first Sandusky investigation. http://www.esquire.com/features/joe-paterno-0612

Today, the family may have opened a bee hive without being fully cognizant that more than honey was left inside.

Here is the requisite testimony:

Q: Other than the incident that Mike McQueary reported to you, do you know in any way, through rumor, direct knowledge or any other fashion, of any other inappropriate sexual conduct by Jerry Sandusky with young boys?

Mr. Paterno: I do not know of anything else that Jerry would be involved in of that nature, no. I do not know of it.
