Ku Klux Klan strikes again -- twice
"Jesus was not white"
While I do not think that the KKK is humorous in any way, a recent interview of a Pa. Klan leader was funny because the guy was so -- I cannot find another word for political correctness -- stupid.
This interview done by liberal radio host Alan Colmes was downright hilarious. Colmes interviewed the "Grand Dragon" of the "East Coast Knights of the True Invisible Empire," a group that is "affiliated" with the KKK.
What started this line of questioning was that William Walters said that his group was "Christian." What had precipitated the interview was the fact that Walters was removed from his Neighborhood Crime Watch because of his affiliation with the Klan.
Walters said the he was a "conservative Republican" and had been Grand Dragon for six years. "We do believe in law and order, and we are not a hate group," Walters told Colmes.
Here is a portion of the text:
Colmes: Can anybody get into your group?
Walters: Yes, if they're a Christian.
Colmes: Can a black get into your group?
Walters: No. It's a white Christian organization.
Colmes: You talk about the bible, you're a bible lover, you went to a bible college, and you're a believer in Jesus. But Jesus wasn't white.
Walters: I don't know that.
Colmes: Jesus was Mediterranean, Jesus was olive-skinned.
Walters: Well, he's not black.
Colmes: He wasn't white either. You're a white group, a white Christian group, and you won't let Blacks in. you won't let darker-skinned people in. Can a Hispanic get into your group?
Walters: No, it's really a white, Christian organization.
Colmes: What makes it Christian if Jesus was not white so he could not get in? Jesus was not exclusionary. Jesus talked about love and walked among everyone.
This was a hilarious interview.

What color was Jesus?
A religious scholar told the Washington Post last year that some information about Jesus is accurate. "Well, what we know about him is that he was Galilean," Reza Aslan said. "As a Galilean, he would have been what is referred to as a Palestinian Jew." That would be the olive skin that Colmes mentioned. Colmes also said that he is Jewish.
Aslan, author of the book "Zealot: The life and times of Jesus of Nazareth," did say that Christ can be anything that you want him to be. "But I want to make a larger point, which might be interesting to you or may not be interesting. What I just described is Jesus. What (Fox host) Megan Kelly described is the Christ. And they're different people! In other words, the Christ can be whatever you want him to be."
That is a complicated topic, so I will leave it there.

Klan demonstrates at Gettysburg -- again
I have often used words like "gutless" to describe the Ku Klux Klan. However, the ten people who demonstrated at the Gettysburg National Military Park on June 28 were either cheap or a little more courageous than they usually are.
On the battlefield close to Meade's Headquarters on the Gettysburg ground that 60,000 made sacred in early July of 1863, ten KKK members -- all without hoods -- spewed forth their venom
"We are taking back this land," one klan protester said. "Anyone stands in our way, they're going in the ground."
That is a threat of violence, which should not be permitted in a national park. The KKK, just like everyone else, is given the free speech guarantee of the first amendment, but when they threaten violence, they should lose that guarantee.
Reports from papers in the area estimated that as many as 50 people listened to the diatribes from the 10 KKK members from Maryland.
The interesting part of this is that since they did not have their traditional hoods, they may identify themselves to employers, fellow employees, and neighbors. That could prove to be interesting. Their speech is protected, but is their participation with what is regarded as a terrorist group also a first-amendment guarantee?
Stay tuned.
