The latest PIAA "corruption": Charging ten bucks for a high school playoff game is asinine.

… Just the latest in tone-deafness


I was surprised by seeing something on Facebook about the notorious PIAA, the group that runs high school athletics in Pennsylvania. 


The post said that admission to district playoff games would cost almost ten dollars — for adults and students. 


And that the tickets could be purchased only online. 


How stupid is that? It is a reflection of the arrogance that the organization has demonstrated over the years. 


I am going to go through this in more detail in another post, but this is not a new story. In fact, in 1998, the state legislature investigated alleged PIAA corruption — but did nothing. 


No surprise there. The legislature is as corrupt as the PIAA is, so it is like one criminal investigating the other. 


Granted, some many not look on this as criminality. 


It is not in the technical, legal sense, but since this reflects treatment of young high school athletes, then it is. 


And as for morality … well, that is another story. 


I will post more on the Stan Bem/Brad Cashman story later, but for now, the only thing that people can do is fire their PIAA leaders. 


It will not happen. If they did not get a crook like Cashman, then they will never do anything about charging ten bucks for a basketball game — for kids.

On a beautiful sunny, warm afternoon on Saturday, October 30, 1982, in Nanty Glory, Pa., the battle featured a clash of two undefeated titans of the Appalachian Conference.  One was the preseason unanimous favorite to win the title, the other a veritable surprise that season, one that had built an 8-0 record entering that game.  This battle lived up to the pre-game hype, ending in a one-point decision that was not certain until the final play of the game.  I thought of this because the coach of the powerful Shade-Central City High School Panthers, George Pasierb, passed away earlier this week.
