Only one Steeler on the NFL 100 "Most Important People" list?

... and it is the milquetoast dude

Okay, it's that time of year. The Steelers will report to St. Vincent's College later this month to start their quest for Super Bowl number 7.

While I am not really optimistic that this team can win the Super Bowl -- at least until they improve defensively, primarily the DBs -- I certainly hope that they can make a run in the playoffs for the first time since they lost to the Packers in Super Bowl XLV.

So, when I saw this headline in USA Today, "The NFL's 100 most important people," I thought that it was worth a read. Wonder how many Steelers made this list?

After reading the name of the number one "most important person" on this list, I should have known that it was bogus. They list Jerry Jones as their #1 and Roger Goodell #2.

What?

How can anyone list an owner who has not done anything with his team since the Jimmy Johnson days in the 1990s be listed ahead of the commissioner?

Now, anyone who has read my blogs realizes that I am not a Goodell fan, but in honesty, he has tremendous power.

Jerry Jones?

Okay, I figured that I would find where Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert, or even offensive coordinator Todd Haley were listed ... and since they listed players, how about Roethlisberger  and Brown?

To save you the time, only one Steeler was listed in the Top 100. That is their milquetoast president Art Rooney II.

What? No Tomlin or Colbert?

To understand how ridiculous this list is, please note that of the coaches, Bruce Arians is 35, Chip Kelly is 51, and Marvin Lewis is 63. How can you pick those three ahead of a coach who has two Super Bowl appearances, one Super Bowl ring, and has his team moving in the right direction again, over those three who have no rings?

Bill Bellichick is #4, which is deserved.

In fact, the Steelers must be feeling like "I don't get no respect" Rodney Dangerfield.

Making things worse is that Charlie Sly (91) and Michael Sam (97) are ahead of any of our Steelers [bet you had to look up Sly].

The first openly-gay player is Sam, who has never made an NFL roster -- though he has played in camp. How is he ahead of Tomlin and Colbert?

I have the top 10 list below and the link to the story and list below that.

"Pittsburgh Steelers co-owner and president. His presence on several key committees makes him a force in the league, as does the face the he comes from one of the most respected and longest-tenured families in the NFL."

In short, Art II was a legacy nomination.
