Blackhawk's Archie Miller, Sean's brother, hired by Indiana Hoosiers
... great opportunity for young coach
Another Western Pa. product has earned a spot at a top basketball institution. Blackhawk High School's Archie Miller was named today as head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers, replacing Tom Crean.
Miller, who played for his legendary dad, John, at Blackhawk, has coached at Dayton for the past six years. He has compiled a 139-63 (69 percent) in that time.
His Flyers reached the 2014 Elite Eight and made the NCAA tournament in each of his six seasons.
They won the Atlantic 10 regular season championship this season and tied for first last year. His team finished with a 24-8 record this year, but were eliminated in the first round of the tournament by Wichita State.
Indiana Hoosiers
Some reports out of Bloomington indicated that former Hoosier Steve Alford was the first choice of A.D. Fred Glass. However, Alford now the coach at UCLA, indicated that he was not interested in the job.
Miller is excited about the opportunity. "IU is one of the greatest basketball programs and academic institutions in the country and I cannot wait to get started,” Miller said according to the AP. “With peerless fan support, outstanding facilities and tradition, a beautiful campus, and located in one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the country, IU is a dream destination for me and my family.”
College
Miller was a point guard for North Carolina State from 1998 to 2002. He then coached at Western Kentucky, NC State, Arizona State, Ohio State, and Arizona with his brother Sean, a former Pitt player who has built that team into a perennial power.
His sister, Lisa, also played Div. I basketball.
Good luck!
Great opportunity for Archie to remove the haunting specter of the red sweater from the Bloomington campus. Crean did not leave the cupboard dry, either, so he might be able to win quickly.
