Joey Porter: Things are really bad when Vontaze Burfict questions your character

....  Porter dragging Steeler name through the mud

To say that Joey Porter is unpopular in Cincinnati Bengal country would be a slight understatement.

Despised would be more like it.

That is why there was joy in Bengal land -- despite their sitting at home during the playoffs -- when Porter was arrested in Pittsburgh after the Steelers win over the Dolphins on Sunday night.

In fact, one of Porter's greatest nemeses in Bengal land is Vontaze Burfict. He and Porter engaged in a little banter in 2015 after the Bengal LB had nailed Steeler receiver Antonio Brown.

After the Porter arrest, Burfict tweeted, "Isn’t he a coach, LOL.”

And the despicable Burfict was correct. Porter had embarrassed everybody by his antics and his drunken behavior, regard of what "eyewitnesses" say. He was intoxicated and brought embarrassment to the Steelers.

That is what is so abhorrent about Porter. First, he is a jerk. Second, he feeds into the current perception of the Steelers in recent years as a group of lowlifes just as bad as the rest of the league.

At one time, we were better than that. No longer.

One Bengal fan went so far as to note that while Burfict had some on-field issues, he had never embarrassed his team and been arrested off the field, like Porter was.

That hurts.

Porter could have cost Steelers a win in 2015

The truth is that Porter could have -- probably should have -- cost the Steelers a win that the Bengals handed to them in the playoffs last year.

That was the game in which Burfict hit Brown with a cheap shot, which drew a 15-yard penalty. Porter left the bench and went out onto the field, which should have drawn a 15-yard penalty. It did not.

Instead, he incited anger by another Bengal despot, Pac Man Jones, who responded and instead received a 15-yard penalty, which set up the winning field goal.

Showed dark side of Tomlin, Steelers

For his illegal behavior, which the officials ignored, Porter was awarded a game ball after that game. That was disgusting. Shows the lack of discipline that Tomlin has been notorious for in recent years.

As for Burfict, he should not gloat. His team certainly did nothing to distinguish itself this year.
